This event forms part of our National Lottery Heritage Fund project Flat Holm – A Walk Through Time
Date and Time
Date(s) - July 24, 2026-July 26, 2026
2:00 pm-4:00 pm
Come and enjoy a wild and unforgettable island experience on Flat Holm.
The emphasis this weekend will be on learning, while having lots of fun. You’ll discover the island’s wildlife through activities such as rock-pooling, minibeast hunting and moth trapping. You may even be lucky enough to spot our secretive slow-worms and lizards. Not to forget, of course, the island’s most obvious (and loudest) residents, the gulls!
Other activities, depending on the weather and season, could include beachcombing, learning fire-lighting, enjoying a beach campfire, shelter-building, environmental art, a treasure trail, and discovering animal tracks and signs. You’ll also get to explore Flat Holm’s fascinating historic buildings, and experience the peace and quiet of the island as the sun sets.
The course is best suited for families with children aged 7–12, however, this is not set in stone – please contact us if your children are older or younger and you want to discuss whether the weekend will be right for you.
