Adventures in Creative Writing

This event forms part of our National Lottery Heritage Fund project Flat Holm – A Walk Through Time

Date and Time
Date(s) - August 14, 2026-August 16, 2026
6:00 pm-8:30 pm

With its rich natural beauty and a fascinating history, Flat Holm is the ideal place to find inspiration for your creative writing. This course is suitable for complete beginners and those with some writing experience.

It’s an opportunity to explore the island’s history and landscape, while developing your own writing practice.

Throughout your stay, you’ll be encouraged to keep a journal to document in poetry and prose your own unique experience of staying on Flat Holm.

The course is structured to allow time for quiet contemplation; open, supportive facilitation; and coming together to share stories and the writing journey. You’ll be encouraged to bring a mindful approach to your writing, using all your senses as you explore the island.

Using free-writing to encourage creative flow, there will also be the opportunity to practice writing in more structured forms, such as haiku – a perfect way to capture snapshots and key moments of your island experience.
