Taking place across the UK over two weeks, the Baton of Hope event is a suicide awareness and prevention initiative.

On Saturday 1 July, the baton will journey around Cardiff, reaching Cardiff Bay Barrage at around midday. The event at the Barrage will recognise the people of the RNLI, the port and the sea-faring communities – acknowledging those that have been lost, the teams at the forefront of rescue efforts, and also some that have been saved.

The initiative aims to impact the lives of thousands of people with a simple message: where there is hope, there is a real opportunity to save lives.

This is the promise that #BatonOfHopeUK founders, Mike McCarthy and Steve Phillip, made to their lost sons (Ross and Jordan), and to the thousands of sons and daughters who are lost each year. Carried by notable personalities, leaders, and people with their own inspiring stories of hope, the Baton of Hope will be marked by a packed events schedule giving local communities, organisations, and neighbouring towns a chance to get involved.

The Baton of Hope event will conclude in London on Thursday 6 July, when the baton will be delivered to the Houses of Parliament in Westminster.
