Second phase of lifting navigation restrictions announced

From Monday 8 June at 00:01, vessel owners will be given limited access through Cardiff Bay Barrage locks.

Due to exceptionally low river flows into the Bay, these locking restrictions are required until further notice to maintain the Bay level within statutory limits:

00:01 Monday – 06:00 Saturday

Outbound
On the hour only

Inbound
45 minutes past the hour only

Weekend locks from 06:00 Saturday until 00:01 Monday will not be affected and will operate to the normal schedule until further notice.

Mariners should note that delays are expected when both locking in and locking out, particularly at weekends and during other busy periods. It’s therefore advisable to use non-peak locking times whenever possible.

Boat skippers may be accompanied by people from their household, or, if their vessel is sufficient in size to maintain social distancing, with people from a different household, subject to the current Welsh Government Covid-19 regulations.

Cardiff Harbour Authority visitor facilities for boats (pontoon systems and slipways) remain closed.

The rules regarding ‘Staying Local’ apply. Mariners must consider the regulations when deciding to travel to and use their vessels, in order to avoid placing any unnecessary strain and risk on the emergency services.

For further important information and advice, please see the Local Notice to Mariners No.09 of 2020.

Thanks for your co-operation.
