WATER
TRANSPORT ON THE RIVER TAFF – INCREASE IN SPEED RESTRICTION FOR
APPROVED LICENSED LOW WASH VESSELS ONLY.
As part of the
development of a water transport system within Cardiff Bay mariners
are advised that from Friday 30th November 2007, the speed limit on
the River Taff will be increased for the following vessels only.
Vessels which have a commercial licence for carrying passengers and
berthing at waterbus stops on the River Taff and their design
results in a low wash will be allowed to travel at the maximum
speeds shown on the attached plan. These vessels will require
evidence of a Commercial Licence issued by Cardiff Harbour Authority
that confirms they are licensed to operate at the speeds shown on
the attached plan.
Mariners should be aware that these approved Harbour Authority
licensed passenger carrying vessels are permitted to travel at a
maximum speed of 20 knots at the entrance to the River Taff as far
as the last upstream port hand and starboard hand navigation buoys
(at the start of the old sand wharf). From this point, upstream they
are permitted to travel at a maximum speed of 8 knots.
(see attached
plan).
Mariners are advised that the maximum 5 knot speed limit remains in
force for all other vessels using the River Taff.
