International Sports Village - artists impression

International Sports Village

Cardiff, Europe’s youngest capital, is a lively cosmopolitan city, proud of its rich history and passionate about its future. The city celebrated its centenary in 2005 and has ambitions to become one of the most successful regional capitals in Europe servicing the valleys and rural Wales in new dynamic partnerships. Cardiff wants to be recognised as the best place to live and work anywhere in the UK.

Work is now well underway on the development of the Cardiff International Sports Village. This unique Billion pound project is located in the heart of Cardiff Bay and is based around the themes of water, snow and ice.

Cardiff Council has taken the lead by spearheading what is widely recognised as one of the most exciting sport, leisure and entertainment projects in the UK.

The International Sports Village will include: an international 50 metre swimming pool, leisure pools, spas and health and fitness facilities, an Olympic Standard Canoe Slalom Centre, a state-of-the-art snow box, a 4,000 seat multi-purpose arena, an ice pad suitable for international competition, top class hotels, as well as a multipurpose entertainment complex and a variety of waterfront bars, and restaurants.

The roofscape to the whole complex will include gardens, footpaths and open air sports facilities including tennis courts and jogging tracks to complement the other sports and entertainment facilities within the new development.

As a city, Cardiff also recognises the importance of developing a sustainable and integrated transport system. The development of a Bay Edge Walkway around the 13km waterfront is being progressed by the Harbour Authority in conjunction with developers and other land owners. The Harbour Authority is also working in partnership with many commercial operators to develop and promote water transport service around the Bay and the rivers Taff and Ely.
