The rides in this unique skate plaza have been based on ‘urban’ features that skaters have been using in Cardiff, and cover an area of over 1100 square metres.

The design of the skate plaza has been undertaken in close partnership with local user groups who have proposed the type of rides that will cater for all types of user including skaters, skateboarders and BMXers.

The proposed cycle and footbridge over the River Ely opened on the 14th July 2010. It will improve access for commuters, residents and tourists travelling between Cardiff and Penarth. The link will also provide a transport route to and from increasingly popular destination as the Ice Rink, Swimming pool and Cardiff International White Water. The 140 metre bridge will also link up to cycle routes throughout the Vale of Glamorgan and Cardiff.

Barrage Café

Plans are in place to develop a permanent Café on the Barrage embankment. The proposed café will offer both internal and external seating areas and being situated on the edge of the Bay, will offer spectacular views of the Inner Harbour and the Bristol Channel.

Bay Edge Walkway

The completion of the Bay Edge Walkway will provide a continuous 13 km route for both pedestrians and cyclists around the waterfront of Cardiff Bay.  It will also inter-connect with the popular River Taff Trail and the River Ely Trail which is under construction.  A significant proportion of the route is already in place.  The main sections still be completed include International Sports Village and the bridge across the River Ely.

Graving Docks Project

These docks were constructed between 1853 and the early 1900’s for the building and repairing of ships in the dry using “graving” (a sealant) to seal the hulls.  This project aims to introduce land and water activities, including regular visiting heritage ships, the installation of additional pontoons and potential partnership opportunities with the private sector.

Water Transport Project

The aspiration of Cardiff is to achieve a fully integrated public transport network.  The Council transport policy aims to reduce traffic impact on the roads of Cardiff, particularly commuter traffic.
